Spotlight

 

Indoor Classes for traditional undergraduate and graduate School of Management classes that are scheduled to be taught indoors resume today, Monday, March 29. Please see email from the Office of the Provost on March 23 for specific instructions for faculty teaching indoors.

The Academic Affairs Policies and Practices for Spring 2021 includes information on handbook policies, classroom practices, and COVID-19 protocol. Within this document you will find information including:

  • Pass/low-pass/no-credit grading
  • Requirement for all final exams to be asynchronous
  • The need to take attendance for all in-person classes
  • Use of study rooms for students who have back-to-back Zoom and in-person classes
  • Requirement to offer asynchronous options for students in different time zones
  • Use of Incomplete (IN) grades

  • University Chapel, Thurs., Apr. 1. Watch and interact at 11:25am every Thursday at our facebook watch party. David Hall '21 will be speaking.
     
  • CTL Weekly Virtual Lunch Series, Thurs., Apr. 1, 12:15-1:00pm. The goal of the Virtual Lunch Series is to bring faculty together to collaborate and share pedagogy successes while teaching remotely. This is a space for you to bring your story, share your teaching creativity and get suggestions/recommendations from colleagues.   • Faculty Sabbatical Presentations, Mon., Apr. 19, 3:30-5:30pm, Lundring Events Center. All faculty are invited to hear brief sabbatical project presentations from faculty who have recently been on sabbatical.   • Save the Date: Virtual Lunch Series: What is Gamification? Thurs., Apr. 8, 12:15-1pm, via Zoom. Ada Crutchfield, Digital Learning’s Learning Technology Coordinator, will be presenting what gamification is for education, the pro’s and con’s of gamification; and examples how to implement it in education with language learners. We will also provide a resource list of gamification technology tools to use for language learners. After the presentation, there will “Q&A” forum with the audience. All are welcome to attend and those who join, will receive a “participation of completion” certificate.
     
  • Save the Date: The Office of Sponsored Research and Projects is presenting a grant writing series for faculty and staff. The next workshop is titled Do the Dollars Make Sense? Allowable Spending & Budget Development. This workshop will be held virtually on Tues., Apr. 23, from 11:15 am to 12:30 pm. (Note new date.) Click here to register.   • Rotary Peace Fellows Scholarship: The Peacebuilder subcommittee of the Thousand Oaks Rotary (TOR) invites interested Cal Lutheran alumni and/or eligible parties to submit an application for nomination with full scholarship to the Rotary Peace Master’s Degree or Professional Development Certificate Program. Site options include six university Rotary Peace Centers around the world. Program details are online, including background/work experience requirements. If you know of someone potentially interested, then please forward this notice. Sponsored requests are due to TOR prior to April 1, 2021, using the linked gForm. Non-sponsored applications are due to Rotary Foundation by May 15. Submit questions about TOR sponsorship to Christina Sanchez at rotarypeacebuilding@gmail.com.
     
  • Education Abroad Expanded Portfolio: The CGE is delighted to announce that the Office of Education Abroad (OEA) created a new Cal Lutheran portfolio for away programs. Under the new model that is in effect as of Fall 2021, OEA increased offerings from 10 to 33 semester-long study abroad programs that expand the country/continent options beyond our previous Western European emphasis. Students participating in our programs are able to retain their financial aid, providing more equitable access to education abroad for all students. Beyond the financial aid package, OEA will provide additional scholarship funds to assist students seeking to study away. An overview information session is coming soon. Students can apply for Fall 2021 opportunities until April 1. Contact studyabroad@callutheran.edu with any questions.
     
  • CLU-Oxford Program: Reconfigured Model, Fall 2021 Update: The Cal Lutheran-Oxford Program is moving forward for Fall 2021! The reconfigured program maintains the foundational tutorial model classes with faculty from the prestigious Oxford University (Aug-Sept), while adding a new dimension of traditional classes and/or an internship experience in the global city of London (Sept-Nov).   • Faculty Research Scholarship in Germany: The German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) invites faculty submissions for funded research projects in Germany. DAAD offers one to three month grants in all academic disciplines to pursue research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories in Germany. The aim of this particular program is to support short-term research stays and thus promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues. German language ability should match the level necessary for the proposed research. The current cycle application is due May 17.
