If You Can Pronounce Tchaikovsky, You Can Say My Name: A Culturally Responsive Discussion on Your Name is a Song

The California Reading and Literature Project at California Lutheran University would like to invite participants to join guest speaker, Shervaughnna Anderson-Byrd, CRLP UCLA regional site director, as she discusses the book Your Name is A Song.

This session will focus on the tenets of culturally responsive teaching: validation, affirmation and empowerment.

Shervaughnna Anderson-Byrd is the site director at UCLA for the California Reading and Literature Project, Project SOL (Social Justice) and the Parent Empowerment Project. She has been an active member of CRLP for over 20 years.

Prior to coming to UCLA, she was a K-12 consultant at the Los Angeles County Office of Education where she provided ELA and technical support to districts throughout the county. She began her teaching career overseas and eventually returned to the states as a bilingual teacher. She has contributed to her field in many roles as a site and district administrator, curriculum coach, content expert and her favorite of all time, classroom teacher.
