Honors Recognition

The virtual 2020 Honors Recognition event proudly recognizes Cal Lutheran’s many academically outstanding students.

Students who have received the following honors are listed: Provost’s Award for Academic Excellence, Scholastic Honor Society, Academic Excellence Award, University Honors, Departmental Honors, Departmental Distinction, Dean’s List, Undergraduate Research Fellowships, and endowed Scholarships and Awards.

In addition, we are proud to recognize faculty who are doing outstanding work in support of our students. President Kimball is announcing the 2020 President’s Award for Teaching Excellence recipient, and faculty who are being promoted and elected to tenure are listed.

Provost's Award for Academic Excellence

The Provost’s Award is presented to the graduating senior(s) with the highest level of academic achievement as measured by the cumulative GPA earned over all college work completed.

Danielle Etcheverryl

Danielle Etcheverry

Danielle Etcheverry is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree, double majoring in marketing communication and music.  She plans to attend CLU next year as a grad student, earning a Master’s degree in the education program.  She has absolutely loved her time at CLU, with a particular highlight being elected co-President of the choir for two years.  Music has been the great passion of her life and she plans to pursue a career in the music field, whether that be teaching, performing, or perhaps combining her knowledge from her music and marketing degrees and working in the music industry.

Professionals Program

Bonnie Harrison is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership. As a passionate learner, Bonnie enjoys coaching and mentoring others in their development. Completing her education at California Lutheran University has been one of Bonnie’s most meaningful accomplishments. Bonnie is especially grateful to faculty, staff, family, and friends who instructed and offered encouragement throughout her academic journey. She is also thankful to work as a regional claims manager for a non-profit healthcare organization, Providence St. Joseph Health, whose mission includes caring for the poor and vulnerable. Bonnie loves traveling, photography, and spending time with her family and friends.

Jeff Soltman

Jeff Soltman

Jeff Soltman is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management.  A native of Woodland Hills, he is focused on finding a career in human resources after graduation.  Jeff has been working with the School of Management since the Fall of 2019 as a Departmental Assistant, tutoring students that need assistance in finance, accounting, and statistics, among other courses.  He has been a dedicated brother of the professional business fraternity on campus, Delta Sigma Pi since the Fall of 2018 and was elected to an officer position in Spring 2020.  Jeff enjoys watching many different sports, traveling, and spending time with family.

Natalie Tseng

From Santa Clarita, CA, Natalie Tseng is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Marketing Communication. Ever since she was a little girl, she developed an overwhelming love for the creative arts and knew that she wanted to incorporate her abilities in her professional career. Natalie explored both traditional and digital media, such as oil painting and Adobe Creative Cloud, while simultaneously understanding the importance of a strong brand identity and appropriate audience. Plus, she has worked for Cal Lutheran’s Residence Life, Academic Affairs, Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program, and Visual Arts Department. Ultimately, Natalie is determined to contribute to the world in innovative, inspiring and ethical ways that will help the current and future generations.


President's Award for Teaching Excellence

The Faculty Affairs Awards Committee considers an exemplary set of nominees for this award, representing all of Cal Lutheran’s faculty. After seeking input from colleagues, chairs and deans, examining teaching evaluations, and careful deliberation by all members of the committee, a candidate is chosen and recommended to the President.

Scholastic Honor Society of Cal Lutheran

The Scholastic Honor Society consists of upper division students who have demonstrated a high degree of academic excellence. Traditional Undergraduate students with at least 60 credits completed at Cal Lutheran and a GPA of at least 3.9. No more than five percent of the students from each graduating class are invited to participate.

Academic Excellence Award

The Academic Excellence Award is presented to the top two sophomore, junior and senior students who, during the previous academic year, achieved the highest grade point averages in their classes.  In the event of a tie, the number of recipients is expanded.

University Honors

Students complete five courses in the University Honors Program curriculum to graduate with University Honors, and those who maintain a Cal Lutheran GPA of 3.5 or higher receive University Honors with Distinction.

Departmental Honors

Departmental Honors students conduct a several-semester long research project or creative endeavor, and report their work in a senior thesis or exhibition.

Departmental Distinction

Each year the faculty nominate students for Departmental Distinction who have exhibited an unusually high degree of excellence within their major.

Spring Semester 2019

The Dean’s List recognizes traditional undergraduate students (enrolled for 12 or more graded credits per semester) who earn a GPA of 3.6 or higher.

The Dean’s List recognizes traditional undergraduate students (enrolled for 12 or more graded credits per semester) who earn a GPA of 3.6 or higher.

Dean’s List 2018-19 Bachelor’s Degree for Professionals Program

The Dean’s List recognizes Bachelor’s Degree for Professionals students (enrolled for 24 or more graded credits per academic year) who earn a GPA of 3.6 or higher.

Undergraduate Research Fellowships

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship is dedicated to supporting scholarly projects by undergraduates, in every discipline – from the humanities and the arts to math and the natural sciences. During the summer, various programs provide fellowships to allow students to engage in full-time original research and creative projects with a faculty mentor. Students who received Undergraduate Fellowships in Summer 2019 are listed.

Cal Lutheran and our students have been fortunate to be the beneficiary of generations of individuals, families, and foundations whose generous gifts have helped to provide scholarships and awards for some of our most deserving, driven, and talented students.  Scholarships and Awards for the 2019-20 academic year are listed.

Faculty Promotions and Election to Tenure

Upon recommendation of the Appointment, Rank and Tenure Committee, the Provost, and the President, the California Lutheran University Board of Regents has recognized these faculty members by advancing them in rank and/or electing them to tenure effective Fall 2020.

Julia Garcia ’20 (BA in Music) will be attending Manhattan School of Music, recognized as one of the top 10 music conservatories in the United States, where she will pursue a Master's in Music in Classical Voice-Soprano. 

Julia writes, “I am very grateful for my 4 years of undergrad at CLU, where I felt nurtured, have learned so much from all of my professors and mentors, and have excelled academically remaining on the Dean's List all 4 years at CLU.  I guess this will be my last performance at CLU, even though it might be virtual.”
