Introduction to College Life

A College Transition Program

The Introduction to College Life Program assists adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum with the transition from high school to college or from community college to a University. The program is offered on the California Lutheran University Thousand Oaks campus during the summer, however, participants do not need to be planning to attend Cal Lutheran. The program is offered free of charge.

Note: The Introduction to College Life Program is designed for high school students who will be starting their senior year of high school or their first year of college.

The Introduction to College Life Program is 6 sessions lasting 2 hours each.

Program Topics

The program focuses on key aspects of college success, with topics including:

  • Time management
  • Self-advocacy
  • Communication with faculty and staff
  • Getting accommodations in college
  • Social activities
  • Self-care and stress-management

The program also includes activities designed to help participants practice skills, such as a mock office hour meeting with a college faculty member, creation of a weekly schedule with sample college courses, and exploration of college clubs that meet the student’s interest.  

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from current college students on the spectrum about their experience.  The Introduction to College Life Program is 6 sessions lasting 2 hours each.
