The Gleaners and I (2000)

The Gleaners and I (Les Glaneurs et la glaneuse) is an intimate, picaresque inquiry into French life as lived by the country’s poor and its provident, as well as by film director Agnès Varda. Gleaners, people who pick at already-reaped fields for the odd potato and leftover turnip, provide the aesthetic, political and moral point of departure in the 2000 film. The National Society of Film Critics, New York Film Critics Circle, Los Angeles Film Critics Association and Boston Society of Film Critics all named it best documentary of the year.

Judith Samuel, CLU Collection Development Manager and Archivist, will introduce the film and facilitate a panel discussion. Admission is free.
