Violence Against Schools: The Worst Case Scenarios

A Workshop Presented By Jim Biesterfeld

Violence Against Schools: The Worst Case Scenarios is a workshop for school administrators, security and law enforcement personnel presented by Jim Biesterfeld, Special Agent (Ret).

Biesterfeld received a bachelor's in education from Concordia University, River Forest, Ill. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, initially as a military policeman. He was recruited into Military Intelligence as a Special Agent for Counterintelligence where he was responsible for the investigation of national security crimes, including counter-espionage and counter-terrorism. He is a linguist in the Arabic and German languages.

Currently under contract to the California Department of Justice, Advanced Training Center, he has trained hundreds of police officers and federal security personnel in California as well as agencies in Nevada, Florida, Nebraska and Ontario, Canada. He recently co-authored a textbook on Post Catastrophic Event Management. He also consults on matters of antiterrorism, school violence and threat assessments to companies in the private sector.

Biesterfeld has provided school violence training for a number of schools and colleges, most recently Claremont-McKenna colleges and the Escondido School District. The seminar will include a review of the worst case scenarios of violence in our schools. Topics of discussion will include threats against schools, case studies, prevention, detection, deterrence and proper action. Four major school incidents (Ma’a lot, Columbine, Beslan and Virginia Tech) changed the manner in which school violence is apprpached.

The seminar will begin with a continental breakfast from 8:30 to 9 a.m. with the presentation beginning promptly at 9. The cost of $35 per person includes breakfast, lunch and a certificate of attendance. Register by e-mailing Dr. Robert Meadows at the address below. Make checks payable to CLU Criminal Justice Department. Receipts will be issued at the workshop.
