CLU Conservatory Cellists

Cellist Joyce Geeting will open the concert of 20th-century cello music with "Sonata, Opus 8 for Unaccompanied Cello" by Zoltan Kodaly, a 30-minute work of enormous proportions based on Hungarian folk music. The work was made famous by Janos Starker, who performed the piece at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest at the age of 15, stunning the audience with his brilliant performance. Geeting first performed the work in Europe in 1980 for European television followed by many performances in the United States. She recently published a book about Starker, who celebrates his 85th birthday this year, titled Janos Starker, King of Cellists.

The second half of this televised concert will feature Geeting and her students performing cello music by Paul Hindemith, Bela Bartok and Paul Bazelaire.

Donations for the concert are $10 payable to Chamber Music Plus.
