Center for Equality and Justice Lecture Series

Dance and Advertising: How Does It Affect You? by Carla Walter

In this lecture and demonstration, Carla Walter, an associate professor in CLU’s School of Management, exposes the ways in which dance in advertising affects consumers – often unknowingly. Her new book Black Social Dance in Television Advertising: An Analytical History shows how dance is used to connect consumers to brands. Audience members at the event will be encouraged, though not required, to participate in dance to illustrate silent links between movement and affect.

Walter’s research interests include nonprofit marketing, especially for the fine and performing arts, as it relates to cultural studies and international marketing. She has been a visiting lecturer at international institutions including the University of Savoy, the Institute of Management in Annecy, France, and the Management Center Innsbruck in Austria. Her numerous publications include journal articles, books and book chapters.

Admission is free.
