The Pre-Raphaelites: Rebels of the Victorian Age with Katherine Zoraster

Rebelling against the conservative standards of the British Royal Academy, the art Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded in 1848 with the aim of creating a new British art that sought inspiration from art of the late Medieval and early Renaissance. This class will look at artists who formed this group, their individual styles and their lasting influence.

Katherine E. Zoraster is an art historian and a professor of art history specializing in Western art from the Renaissance to the 20th century. Zoraster graduated with a double major in English literature and art history from the University of California, Los Angeles and earned a master’s degree in art history with distinction from California State University, Northridge. In addition to the courses she teaches for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute through UCLA Extension and California State University, Channel Islands, she is an adjunct professor of art history at Moorpark College and an instructor of art history for the full-time program at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Arts. Zoraster serves as a commissioner for the Burbank Cultural Arts Commission and volunteers at the Burbank Animal Shelter. In her free time, she is an avid runner and travels extensively.
