The role of CTO in a startup perhaps requires the most dynamic range of anyone on the founding team. A good CTO is a technological visionary who also can sling code. A good CTO knows the business as well as the underlying technology. A good CTO is comfortable negotiating deals with venture capitalists and delivery schedules with software engineers.
