Meet the Staff
Elaine has been the Director of the Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center since 2000; however she has worked here, previously as a teacher, since 1986. Elaine graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's in Social Work. After getting married and moving from Ohio to California in 1975, she obtained her Master's in Counseling from CLU. All 3 of her adult children, Nicole, Jared, and Matthew, attended the preschool. Elaine enjoys spending her off-time with her husband, children and five grandchildren, Kayden, twins Kai and Olivia, Ella, and Mayson. She also enjoys camping, biking, hiking, and being outdoors!
Miriam has worked in the Toddler Room since 1988. Toddlers are her favorites! She grew up in northern Illinois, graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and has taught in Georgia, Michigan, Japan, Bangkok, and California. She has been married to Kiyo Nakayama for over 25 years and they have two daughters, Katie and Anna. Both girls are alumni of the preschool.
Ligia was born in Costa Rica, but has lived in California since 1981. She has worked in our Toddler room since 2000. She particularly likes putting together the end-of-the year CD with pictures and music for each of the Toddlers. Ligia has been married for over 25 years and has two sons; both graduates of California Lutheran University.
Heidi has been studying and working in the Early Childhood Education Field for 7 years, and considers it a great privilege to be a part of our Preschool Team. She has been married to her husband for for 30 years, and has 2 grown children; a daughter, and a son who attends CLU. In her free time she loves to read and to knit.
Shelly works in our Infant room and will be supporting our Toddler Outdoor classroom program in the mornings. She is happily married to her husband, Guy. They have two grown sons and 2 young grandchildren. Shelly has been caring for children for over 30 years, and holds an AA Degree in Child Development from Moorpark College. In her free time, she loves to do crafts and crochet.
Jenni teaches the young five's/older fours class at the Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center. She graduated from CLU with a Liberal Arts degree in 1996 and has taught at the center for 17 years. Jenni is married to Brian McCoy and together they have two daughters; Ashley and Brittany. Both of her girls started their education at the 'House on the Hill" and she very much loves teaching here every day!
Cheryl has worked in the Early Childhood field for over 16 years and has been with the Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center for over 5 years. She has 3 adult children; both of her daughters are graduates of CLU. Cheryl continues to work toward her BA degree and enjoys reading, watching old movies, and cross stitching.
Charlene has taught children since 1989 and has worked at our center since 2002. Charlene grew up and attended schools in Southern California. She has an AS Degree in Early Childhood Development and maintains a Master Teacher certificate with the state of California. Charlene grew up and attended school in Southern California, and has been married to Brian for over 30 years. They have a daughter who graduated from CLU in 2007.
Sofia is one of our loving, nurturing Infant Teachers. She has many years experience in the Early Childhood field and has worked at the FFECC since 2006. She and Bruce have been married for over 35 years and have two adult children; TJ and Theresa. Her hobbies include spending time with her grandson, Wyatt, and working with her parents at the family winery in San Luis Obispo.
Faten has been teaching at the Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center since 2000. She is married and has two children, Matthew and Mary. She has a BA in English Literature and has many courses in Early Childhood education. She enjoys the outdoors and particularly likes to work in the garden, here at school and at home.
Ashley has worked in the 3's program at CLU since 2008. She obtained her Bachelor's degree from the University of La Verne and is currently working on her Master's in Education. The opportunity to work with these young children brings tremendous joy and lightheartedness. She devotes most of her free time to her husband David and son Oliver. Outside of the school, her happiest moments are usually cozy at home with her two favorite boys.
Trish was born in Canada and immigrated with her two sons to California in 2008 to join her husband, John Shannon. Trish has worked in a variety of capacities in the Early Childhood Education field for over 30 years in Canada, Zambia and here in the US. She feels blessed to call the 3’s program her new ‘home’ at the Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center.
Maggie has worked at the center since 2001 and has taught all age groups. Maggie currently works in our four year old classroom. Maggie has a Bachelor's Degree from Cal State Northridge with an emphasis in Early Childhood Development. She has lived in southern California her entire life and is a "true" California girl. She enjoys surfing, participating in half marathons, and spending time with her family.
Hafiza taught preschool in Santa Barbara for eight years before joining our center. She currently holds her BA in Liberal Studies, with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education. Hafiza lives with her husband, Bryce, and their five children, Finnley, Zoey, Keagan, Callan, and Ian. In her free time, Hafiza enjoys spending time playing with her family.
Jim is one of our afternoon outdoor classroom teachers and our resident gardener. He has worked in the Early Childhood Field for over 5 years, has an AS Degree in Early Childhood Development and a BA Degree in Biological Science from UCSB. He has been married to his wife for 30 years, and they have 3 grown children. He enjoys researching genealogy, reading stories, being outdoors, nurturing children, and gardening at home, at our school and at the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden.
Stefanie joined our team during the summer of 2016. Being a substitute teacher at the Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center allows her the opportunity to get to know all the children attending our program ~ from infants to five year olds! Stefanie has been married to her husband Steve for 27 years. They have two grown daughters (whom she had homeschooled) and recently became first time Grandparents! Stefanie has her BA in Child Development.

Mrs. Kim joined the staff team in the fall of 2015. She currently holds a BA in child developmet as well as a Master Teacher Permit. As a substitute teacher she worked as a long term substitute with Mrs. Trish for three months. She has been happily married to her husband Steve for the past 32 years and has two grown boys, Kyle 25, and Kevin 23. She is passionate about her jewelry making, enjoys spending time with her family, and considers Snoopy her hero!
