Join us for an exciting day of softball tradition, competition, and networking as our Homecoming Softball Alumni face off against our current Regals team!

Whether you plan to swing for the fences or just want to catch up with old teammates, we can’t wait to see you back on the field.

Event Details

• Date: Saturday, October 17
• Time: 1:00 PM – 3:15 PM (Optional morning practice viewing starts at 11:00 AM)
• Location: Hutton Field, Cal Lutheran University
• Registration Deadline: Sunday, October 11

Schedule of Events

• 11:00 AM – 12:45 PM | Morning Practice Open House
  Come early! We invite you to check out our current team’s first Saturday morning practice of the season. Drop by anytime during this window.
• 12:45 PM – 1:20 PM | Alumni Arrival, Warmups & Social
  Check-in (visitor’s dugout), grab your t-shirt, and catch up with teammates. Hitting warmups will be open in the home side batting cages.
• 1:00 PM – 1:20 PM | On-Field Batting Practice
  The main field opens up exclusively for alumni batting practice.
• 1:20 PM – 2:35 PM | Alumni vs. Current Players Derby
  The main event! 1-on-1 matchups based on alumni registration.
• 2:35 PM – 3:50 PM | Post-Derby Networking Social & Public Home Run Derby Fundraiser
  Public HR Derby is open to CLU alumni, families, faculty, staff, students, and the community. This is also the time when our softball alumni and current player “Networking Pods” will connect!

Derby Format & Rules

• The Matchups: 1-on-1 showdowns based directly on softball alumni registration.
• Out-Based Format: Each batter gets 3 rounds with a 5-out limit per round.
• What Counts as an “Out”?: Any swing that results in a swing-and-miss, a foul ball, or any hit that does not clear the outfield fence.
• Hard Hit Scoring: Alumni will score double the points on hits that meet scoring criteria.
• Equipment: Feel free to bring your own glove and bat! If you do not have your
  own bat, you are welcome to use one of our current team bats.
• Tie-Breaker Rule: If a current Regal and an Alumna tie for the highest total points, the tiebreaker will be
  decided on the spot by a high-stakes, best-of-seven Rock-Paper-Scissors battle.

Welcome to the first-annual Homecoming Home Run Derby Fundraiser! Whether you are a seasoned slugger or have never picked up a bat, this event is open to hitters of all ages and experience levels. We invite all CLU Alumni, staff, faculty, students, family, and friends of the community to take some hacks at knocking one out of the park!

Spectating the event is completely free—so bring your friends and family to pack the stands at Hutton Field, enjoy the music, and cheer on the hitters. All proceeds from registrations and donations directly fund our team’s upcoming competitive travel trip to Honolulu, Hawaii in 2028. Help us launch our journey to the islands while enjoying a battle of the bats right here at home!

Participation Tiers & Packages
Select your entry level below. Note: Every registration tier gets you guaranteed cuts at the
plate, split across multiple rounds so everyone gets their turn in the spotlight!

• Spectator Pass ($0): Free admission to the stands to enjoy the music, atmosphere, and community fun.
• Student Discount Pass ($15): 12 pitches total (2 rounds of 6 pitches). Valid for current students.
• Base Hitter Package ($25): 12 pitches total (2 rounds of 6 pitches).
• All-Star Package ($50): 20 pitches total (2 rounds of 10 pitches).
• Golden Ticket Package ($100): 30 pitches total (3 rounds of 10 pitches).
• Flat Donation Only: Can’t make it to the field or prefer to stay in the dugout? You can still support our 2028 Hawaii trip by entering a custom donation amount.
