“The Structures We Move Within” Opening Reception
Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026
4:00 – 5:00 pm
William Rolland Art Center
Prints and installations by Nathaniel Ancheta.
The visual arts department at California Lutheran University is pleased to present The Structures We Move Within, prints and installations by Nathaniel Ancheta. The works build landscapes from the highways, aqueducts, aerospace history and natural terrain of Southern California, turning familiar places into spaces that are both physical and psychological.
In the Identityscapes series, Ancheta layers and fractures photographs with geometric forms, so that a freeway, a wildfire, or a still lake becomes part of a visual language about control, movement, memory, and identity. T[ ]pography extends that language through text and reflective surfaces, where meaning shifts depending on where the viewer stands. Throughout, landscape is never just a backdrop but something we construct, navigate, and project ourselves onto.
Also on display is a collection of ephemera and video documentation of Art In Residence, a 501(c)3 non-profit promoting public art in the Antelope Valley. The organization was co-founded by Nathaniel Ancheta and Dave Martin, current chair of the visual arts department.
The artist will be present for the opening reception, and light refreshments will be served, including beer and wine for guests over 21 years of age.
The Structures We Move Within is on display from Oct.1 through Dec. 15.
