Spotlight

 

2021 Winter Faculty Retreat, Tues., Jan.19, 9am-12pm, via Zoom. All full-time and part-time faculty welcome!  The Faculty Assembly meeting will be held following the retreat from 1-2:30pm. Agenda and Zoom links were sent via email.

Updated Academic Affairs Policies and Practices for Spring: Please read through the linked policies for Spring. This document includes information on faculty handbook policies as they relate to the current situation, classroom practices, and COVID-19 protocol/reporting and sick time. Click here to view. Please note:
     - The Pass/Low Pass/No Credit policy continues.
     - Final exams will be asynchronous.
     - The holidays for the 15 week semester are President's Day (2/15) and Good Friday (4/2). No Spring Break. (11-week programs do have classes on President's Day.)

Most buildings, including the Humanities building, are now open. Click here for the current status of all buildings. All faculty have card swipe access to all buildings on campus. You must complete the daily health check form before coming to campus each day. Prior to the resumption of in-person classes, you may teach from your office or a classroom. To utilize a classroom, please contact Robyn Ballard in Academic Services at rballard@callutheran.edu to ensure the classroom is properly set-up and equipped with the necessary technology.

  • Spring start dates for classes:
    • Spring Semester classes begin Wed., Jan. 20.
    • PLTS Spring Semester classes begin Mon., Feb. 1.
    • Spring 11-week term classes begin Mon., Mar. 1.
       
  • New Training Sessions for Faculty: The Digital Learning Department will continue to offer on-campus and online (via Zoom) training for faculty through Fri., Jan. 29. Adequate steps will be taken to ensure all COVID-19 precautions are followed for all on campus trainings. Click here for more information and to RSVP.
     
  • University Chapel, Thurs., Jan. 21. Watch and interact at 11:25am every Thursday at our facebook watch party. Malik Burton will be speaking.
  • CTL Weekly Virtual Lunch Series, Thurs., Jan. 21, 12:15-1:00pm. The goal of the Virtual Lunch Series is to bring faculty together to collaborate and share pedagogy successes while teaching remotely. This is a space for you to bring your story, share your teaching creativity and get suggestions/recommendations from colleagues. The topics and conversation are initiated and will be led by you, the faculty. Click here to post any questions for the weekly sessions.   • Reporting COVID-19 symptoms and hazards – As is discussed in the Cal Lutheran Compact, all employees that either test positive for COVID-19 or have interaction with someone who has tested positive must notify their supervisor and email Covid19Reporting@Callutheran.edu.  This includes all individuals who are either working full-time or part-time on campus and all individuals that are working at home.  Employees who notify Cal Lutheran of a positive test or exposure will be absolutely free of any type of reprisal.
     
  • The new 2019-20 At the Leading Edge: The Work of Our Faculty publication can be found on the Academic Affairs website. Click here to view.
     
  • Sabbaticals - The deadline to apply for a 2022/23 Sabbatical is Mar. 1, 2021.  A new application form is being developed and will be available soon.
     
  • Provost Distinguished Scholar Award (PDSA) - Nominations are now being accepted. Please click here to review additional information. All nominations will be submitted to the Deans by Mar. 5. Each Dean will review applications and recommend one recipient. Recommendations and supporting documents will be forwarded to the Awards Committee by Mar. 15. The Awards Committee, Faculty Affairs Committee, and the Provost will make a final decision.
     
  • Save the Date: The Office of Sponsored Research and Projects is presenting a grant writing series for faculty and staff. The next workshop is titled Step One: Designing the Project. This workshop will be held virtually on Tues., Jan. 26, from 11:15 am to 12:30 pm. Click here to view the topics for the entire series and to register.
