Faculty Announcements
Every Monday, Academic Affairs sends out a “Faculty Announcements” email. Adjunct
faculty should be
sure to read these announcements carefully as they contain important information,
including details for
all the events happening during the week.
Adjunct Faculty Council
The Adjunct Faculty Council (AFC) is an officially recognized, elected body of the
shared governance at
California Lutheran University. Founded in January 2022 with the support of the Provost,
the AFC
identifies and supports the unique needs of the adjunct faculty.
AFC Charge and Charter
- Establishing channels of communication between adjunct faculty members and constituencies
of the University. - Increasing the visibility and participation of adjunct faculty members across the University.
- Providing methods in which matters of concern to adjunct faculty members may be raised, discussed and shared with University constituencies.
- Conducting elections for faculty senator(s) and Council members.
- Improving the quality of professional life for adjunct faculty members.

Office Space and Equipment

Media Services
Media Services provides presentation technology for the Cal Lutheran community. Classroom
presentation and video equipment are available for check-out at the Media Services
office, located in
the Pearson Library. For detailed information and location map, visit the Media Services
Website.
Services include the following:
- Audio/visual classroom support (i.e., the classroom projector is not working)
- Video production and duplication
- Faculty development in educational technology

Adjunct faculty who teach on the main Thousand Oaks campus can request assistance
if needed during
their class. For adjunct faculty who teach at the off-site centers (such as Oxnard
and Westlake Village),
please inform the site coordinator of your issue in order to receive assistance.

Faculty Development
Adjunct faculty have access to a variety of professional development opportunities
and resources
through the Faculty Development website. Resources include on-demand trainings, archived trainings,
book study groups, and a DEIJ toolbox. If adjunct faculty have any questions regarding
eligibility to utilize
the available resources, please Contact the Staff.
LinkedIn Learning
Adjunct faculty can also take advantage of Cal Lutheran’s membership with LinkedIn
Learning, which offers an enormous catalog of foundational content and tools to improve
skills in
industry roles, learning pathways, plus courses and training modules that cover wide-ranging
topics such
as Artificial Intelligence, Inclusive Leadership, and Web Design.

The participation in and use of professional development activities and resources
by adjunct faculty is
optional and non-compensable time.
Center for Teaching and Learning
The Center for Teaching and Learning Center (CTL) provides support to faculty by presenting
workshops
and by developing a library of resources about teaching and learning and technology.
Detailed
information is available on the CTL website.
The Teaching and Learning Committee is an ad hoc committee of faculty members that
also functions as
faculty mentors and as an information source for faculty interested in various aspects
of curriculum,
course design, instruction and student learning.
As part of the CTL, the Digital Learning team offers support in instructional design,
innovative pedagogy,
online teaching preparation, Canvas and other academic technologies. Further information

Forrest Fitness Center
Membership to the Forrest Fitness Center is FREE for current full-time and adjunct faculty, with
discounted memberships available for their spouses or domestic partners, for Cal Lutheran
Alumni, and
others. A Cal Lutheran-issued ID card is required to access the building and services.
Pearson Library
All current Cal Lutheran adjunct faculty employees have full access to the library's services:

- Interlibrary Loan
- Technology
All Pearson Library patrons must have a Cal Lutheran-issued ID card to access the building and services.
Available Dining on Campus
Adjunct faculty have access to information regarding the dining options (along with
hours of operation)
via the Campus Life section in the MyCLU portal. Details and locations are also available
via the Campus Dining website.
Promotion to Senior Adjunct
Senior Adjunct Application Process
Senior Adjunct Faculty status is assigned in recognition of effective teaching over
a period of at least six
years (an adjunct faculty member must have taught at least one course each year for
6 years, within a
10-year timeframe). The benefits of this promotion include:
- An increase in hourly salary in accordance with the current pay rates for senior adjunct faculty
- $300 per year toward expenses to a conference related to the adjunct faculty member’s
teaching - Invitation to the annual faculty retreat in late August
- Business cards (upon request)
Adjunct faculty who are eligible for promotion must submit a Declaration of Candidacy for Senior
Adjunct Faculty application once the instructions and link are sent out by the Office of the Provost,
usually in December of the current academic year.
The adjunct faculty member will be observed in the classroom by their Department Chair
or Program
Director during the Spring semester/term, then the Department Chair or Program Director
will submit
their recommendation to their Dean for approval. The adjunct faculty member will be
notified of the
Provost’s final decision at the end of July and the promotion will become effective
in the Fall.
