Health Insurance

Students and faculty traveling internationally on California Lutheran University-sponsored travel can be covered by the EIIA International Travel Program. The EIIA Program is supplemental coverage and is not intended to replace the traveler's primary insurance coverage. We strongly suggest all students maintain their primary insurance coverage when possible. The plan provides:

  • Broad emergency medical insurance coverage
  • A host of travel assistance services
  • No special registration required
  • Unlimited personal sojourn coverage

Please visit www.eiia.org/internationaltravel for full coverage information.

Travel Assistance
EIIA has partnered with Generali Global Assistance and GardaWorld to provide claims management, travel assistance and information to participants. Whether it’s a personal emergency or a global catastrophe, this full-spectrum service is your lifeline, providing broad insurance coverage and critical assistance while you travel abroad on any institution-sponsored trip. A single phone number provides 24/7 access to assistance and medical personnel, regardless of the time zone.

IMPORTANT:

If you are participating on a study away program based in the United States, you will not be covered by the EIIA International Travel Insurance Program. You must use your primary health insurance plan.

International students, please direct any questions to the Office of International Students and Scholars. They can be reached by email at international@CalLutheran.edu .

FAQ

How do I register?
You’re already registered! If you are a faculty or staff member, student, alumni or volunteer of a member institution, you’re automatically covered when traveling on institution-sponsored trips. To take advantage of the GardaWorld country information and real time alerts, please follow these directions.

How do I secure documentation of my insurance policy for myself, visa applications, and other purposes?

You can contact EIIA directly at adminservices@eiia.org for copies of your insurance documentation.

What type of services are covered?
Broad emergency services are covered. This does not include routine services such as dental check-ups. Visit the bottom of this page for more coverage details.

Can I travel with prescription medicine?
Each country has set laws on what medicines they allow to be brought in. Even if your doctor has prescribed a medication, it does not necessarily mean your host country will allow it. Please always check the local laws before traveling. EIIA/Generali Global Assistance can assist in determining which medicines are allowed in. They can be reached at 855-901-6712 (Domestic) or 1-240-330-1551 (International), or email them at ops@gga-usa.com.

If you are traveling with prescription medicine, we advise following these rules:

  • Keep the medicine in the original packaging that has your name on it.
  • Pack it in your carry-on, not your checked baggage.

I need to visit a doctor abroad; what is the first step?
If this is a life-threatening medical emergency, please seek immediate assistance from the nearest medical provider.

For all other services, contact EIIA/Generali Global Assistance before seeking treatment. They will direct you to the nearest medical facility that is covered within the insurance plan. If you decide to seek medical services that are not advised or covered by EIIA/Generali Global Assistance, there may be non-reimbursable expenses.

Will I be covered if I need to visit a doctor outside of my host city/country?
Yes. The supplemental insurance plan will cover you if are traveling outside of your host city/country and need medical treatment.

I plan on traveling independently after my study away program. Am I still covered?
Yes. In fact, our built-in unlimited personal sojourn coverage means you can arrive early or stay on for as long as you’d like before or after the institution-sponsored event. Either way, you retain your full coverage, with just a few exceptions outlined in the policy. You’re even covered if you travel to other countries while on a personal sojourn.
