All students, staff, and employees who test positive for COVID-19, whether or not they are living or working on campus, should report it to Cal Lutheran as soon as possible.
Health Services offers two testing options for students:
- Students having symptoms of COVID-19 who would like to be evaluated by a medical provider can call Health Services to schedule an appointment at (805) 493-3225. During the appointment, the medical provider will discuss different testing options including PCR and antigen tests.
- Students wishing to test for COVID-19 for any reason (such as a recent exposure) can get over-the-counter at-home antigen tests at Health Services for FREE. Just walk into Health Services during open hours and take a test from the waiting room.
Other options for local COVID-19 testing include:
- Private businesses like Covid Clinic.
- A local pharmacy. Call or visit the website of your local pharmacy to find out if they offer COVID-19 testing. View locations at: https://covid19.ca.gov/get-tested/
- At-home collection kits and tests are available over the counter in a pharmacy or retail store. Visit the CDC self-testing website to learn more.
All Staff, Faculty, and Students:
Isolating for a minimum of 5 days following symptom onset (or date of positive test if asymptomatic).
You may end isolation AFTER Day 5 IF:
- You have no symptoms, or your symptoms are mild and getting better; AND
- You have not had a fever for 24 hours without taking medicine that lowers fevers.
Wearing a mask for 10 days.
You should wear a mask starting when your symptoms began (Day 0) or the day you took your positive test (Day 0 if you never had symptoms) through Day 10, even if you leave isolation sooner.
- Use the laundry facilities in your building only when absolutely necessary, and try to avoid peak times. Always keep your mask on and wipe down any surfaces you have touched with disinfectant.
- Sit outside, away from others to get fresh air. You can go for a walk alone. Please wear your mask.
- Pick up food from Ullman Dining Commons using the GrubHub App.
- Go to in-person classes, labs, or workplaces.
- Enter any campus building (excluding your Residence Hall or University Health Services for timely/essential care).
- Be with others in groups.
- Attend group events like community service, outdoor concerts, sporting events and other gatherings that bring people together.
- Utilize any common areas in your residential building; including, but not limited to, lounges or kitchens.
- Utilize the Forest Fitness Center or other athletic facilities.
- Enter Ullman Dining, Ullman To Go, Starbucks or The Habit.
If you are found doing any of the above during your isolation period, this may constitute a violation of the Student Handbook.
What if your roommate tests positive?
If your roommate tests positive and you do not have symptoms, you are not required to quarantine. Instead, we encourage you to get tested 3-5 days later, monitor for symptoms, and wear a facial covering around others. If you become symptomatic, you are required to isolate and get tested. For further information, see the "Exposures" tab above.
If your roommate tests positive and you are at high risk of severe disease, you may request a temporary move to another location for the duration of the infectious period. The specifics of the alternative location will be determined by California Lutheran University Student Affairs staff and may be located off campus. "Medically high-risk" is determined by Health Services. Students at high risk of severe disease can contact firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm risk and initiate the process of moving to a different location for the duration of a roommate’s infectious period.
If you were exposed to someone positive for COVID-19 and are not having any symptoms:
Get tested 3-5 days after the exposure.
Wear a mask for 10 days following the exposure.
You are OK to continue doing normal activities on campus so long as you remain asymptomatic and test negative.
If you were exposed to someone positive for COVID-19 and you are having symptoms:
Get tested right away.
If you test negative, consider retesting every 1-2 days for several days, until testing positive or you feel better.
Wear a mask for a minimum of 10 days following the exposure, and consider wearing a mask longer if still symptomatic in order to prevent spreading any germs.
Continue to monitor your symptoms, and seek medical care if your symptoms become concerning.
You are OK to continue doing normal activities on campus so long as you continue to test negative.

COVID-19 vaccinations are not required by Cal Lutheran University. However, all students, staff, and faculty are strongly encouraged to be up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccinations for their own well-being, as well as for the health and safety of our community as a whole.
