California Lutheran University Digital Collections

The California Lutheran University Digital Collections are a repository for material related to the university, including art and cultural heritage objects in our holdings and images relating to our history. Visitors may download and utilize the images and information for research, or to request loans of work from our permanent collection for exhibition purposes. Funding for this project has been provided by California Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

Center for Cultural Engagement and Inclusion

This collection is managed by the Center for Cultural Engagement and Inclusion and can be found in their space at the Student Union. The Center Library holds books and DVDs that cover a diverse range of themes. Materials can be searched by either title or theme.

EDU|CAL Lending Libraries

This collection is managed by the Title V EDUCAL Program in collaboration with Pearson Library. 3-day loans can be found at Pearson Library, and full semester loans can be requested online. The collection consists of required textbooks in support of the EDU|CAL goals and multicultural children's picturebooks.

Gallegly Center Archive and Collection

The Gallegly (Elton W.) records contain correspondence, reports, bills, testimonies, memorandums, invoices, photographs, newspaper clippings, retrotechnologies and other ephemera collected by the offices of Representative Elton Gallegly (1944- ) over his twenty-six years of service to the House of Representatives for Ventura County (1987-2013). These records highlight core congressional functions, meetings, votes and administrative operations. The collection is housed in the Elton & Janice Gallegly Center for Public Service and Civic Engagement at Pearson Library and is available by appointment only.

Scandinavian Cultural Center

This collection is managed by the Scandinavian American Cultural and Historical Foundation and can be found in their house on Faculty Drive. Their collection consists of historical and cultural documents and books relating to Scandinavian history. 

Diverse Authors @ Pearson Library

The Diverse Authors @ Pearson Library table is a continuously updated resource, intended to highlight print books by self-identified diverse authors/editors held within Pearson Library. The table can be filtered by several facets, incuding author identit(y/ies) and subject/genre. To make the table larger, please click on 'View larger version' in the lower right-hand corner of the table.

A. Weir and Josephine Bell Bible Collection

Donated in honor of the Rev. William Hohberger and Dr. A. Weir Bell by Josephine Hohberger Bell. The bibles range from 1575-1935 and are located in a case in the back of the library near conference room 133.

Campanile and Kairos Yearbooks

1962 - present
All fifteen volumes of Campanile (1962-1976) and all volumes of Kairos are accessible online and may be downloaded for offline viewing. The project was undertaken with the help of the Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library. Physical copies are held in the Pearson Library Reference Collection. Ellsworth La Boyteaux Collection of Art from Papua New Guinea

The Ellsworth La Boyteaux Collection of art from Papua New Guinea includes approximately 160 artifacts from diverse regions of Papua New Guinea from approximately the early to mid 20th century. Donated to California Lutheran University in the 1970s by the art collector Ellsworth La Boyteaux, the collection includes a range of objects such as carved ancestor figures, yam cult figures, polychromed suspension hooks, ceremonial house decorations, painted shields, masks, plaques, weapons, musical instruments, and jewelry.

Hopi Kachina Dolls (Georgie Kelm collection)

January 1972
A collection of watercolors by Georgie Kelm features nine American Indian figures. The collection includes: Humi, Türpockwa, Pawik, Hakte, Cipikne, Soyohim Kateinas A'Hote, The Corn Maiden, and Hokyaña. Each watercolor is accompanied by a description of the figure's key characteristics.

McCall's Magazine collection

1924-1958
Starting as a small-format magazine called The Queen in 1873, McCall's is a monthly magazine for American women. The magazine contains recipes, sewing patterns, information about clothings trends, and a variety of other topics for women. In 2000, Rosie O'Donnell became editorial director of McCall's and in 2001 the magazine was renamed Rosie. The library's collection was donated by Jeff Wiese, an Oxnard resident who is the son of longtime McCall's editor Otis Lee Wiese. The Echo

October 27, 1961 - present
The digital archive collection of the student newspaper, The Echo, features back issues including the first volume and issue printed on October 27, 1961 under the name The Mountclef Echo to last issue digitized. The digitization project was undertaken with the help of the Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library.
