Professional Licensure

Psychology is a licensed profession in all 50 U.S. States, the District of Columbia, and the five inhabited U.S. territories. In accordance with Federal education regulations (primarily 34 CFR §668.43), CLU must disclose the list of U.S. jurisdictions in which it has determined that the PsyD program meets educational requirements for licensure, as well as the lists of jurisdictions in which it has either made no determination, or in which it has determined that the PsyD program does not meet educational requirements for licensure.

(Students desiring licensure in Canada should consult the relevant Province's licensure authority. Students desiring licensure in other countries should determine whether licensure is necessary in the intended country, and, if so, should contact the relevant authority.)

This disclosure does not guarantee licensure. It only covers the general educational standards for licensure (i.e., the type of degree, institution, and program required for licensure) and does not cover other standards, such as specific coursework requirements (which may require graduates to take certain additional courses to be eligible for licensure) or supervised professional experience requirements (which may specify internship and/or postdoctoral experiences required for licensure eligibility). This disclosure does not account for any changes in licensure standards since this list was last updated on 12 February 2026. Students and prospective students should contact the licensure authority in any jurisdiction/s in which they intend to seek licensure.

This disclosure is based on the information contained in the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB)'s directory of licensure requirements (PSY|Book), cross-referenced with the state licensure resource list maintained by onlinemastersdegrees.org. In unclear cases, the relevant licensing laws and/or regulations have been consulted.

All jurisdictions (except Vermont and West Virginia) require a doctoral degree in psychology or in a closely related field. Most jurisdictions require the degree program to be housed in a regionally accredited institution. The notation "APA accreditation preferred" means that the licensure process is simpler for applicants who attended APA-accredited programs. The notation "from an APA-accredited program" means that applicants who did not attend an APA-accredited program will face significant obstacles to licensure, or may be ineligible for licensure, depending on the jurisdiction.

CLU's PsyD Program is an APA-accredited program within a regionally-accredited institution, and therefore meets educational requirements for licensure in all U.S. jurisdictions, as follows.
