Donna M. Matson: Sami Duodji - Timeless Handicrafts

Donna Matson, a prominent leader in the Finnish-American community, will offer reflections about Sami Duodji (handicraft). Beautiful items of reindeer antler, pewter and wood made by the Sami over the past few centuries provide insight about this unique people’s world view. Matson will incorporate objects from the Scandinavian Center and her own private collection as touchstones in exploring the historical, spiritual and functional aspects of Sami handicraft.

As a screenwriter of feature films and documentaries, Matson was co-creator, co-executive producer and a writer for the My Life as a Dog TV series for Alliance/Atlantis and Showtime. She is currently President of the Los Angeles Finlandia Foundation and writes a genealogy column for Baiki, the North American Sami Journal. Matson recently received a grant from the Finlandia Foundation National to create a novel based on one of her original screenplays with a Finnish theme, Children of the Sun.

Admission is free.
