Ventura County Women's Forum on Economic Insecurity
Lilly Ledbetter, Guest Speaker
This forum will view the current economic crisis through a gender lens, exploring the specific challenges for women, identifying potential opportunities and developing skills and coordinated action for improving the economic prospects for women in Ventura County.
Special guest Lilly Ledbetter will present the luncheon address. Ledbetter is the namesake for the Fair Pay Act of 2009 that was the first piece of legislation signed by President Barack Obama after he took office in January. This important civil and economic justice bill amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 allowing women to sue under the Equal Pay Act citing sex discrimination in the workplace.
Reservations are $35 before Sept. 15 and $40 after that date. (See reservation and contact information below.) Continental breakfast and lunch are included. Hosted by the Ventura County Women’s Forum Collaborative with the CLU Center for Equality and Justice, National Women’s Political Caucus-Ventura County and the California State University Channel Islands Center for Multicultural Engagement. All proceeds benefit the Ventura County Women’s Forum Collaborative.
