History Lecture Series: Collapse

History Lecture Series: Collapse

Given that no civilization lasts forever, how can we identify moments in history when a society, as it had been known for generations, ended? Three Cal Lutheran history professors explore the question in the second half of this lecture series that began last fall.

Feb. 7, “The Fall of Rome” – Assistant Professor Sam Claussen explores issues leading to the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 CE.

March 7, “The Year of the Black Plague and its Impact” – Professor Michaela Reaves examines the biology and impact of the Black Plague after its arrival in Europe in 1348 CE.

April 11, “The End of the European Order” – President Chris Kimball explores the changes in the global structure after the summer of 1914.

Admission is free. Sponsored by Cal Lutheran and the Thousand Oaks Library with a grant from the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation. The Grant R. Brimhall Library is located at 1401 E. Janss Road in Thousand Oaks.
