Sharks, Monkeys and Rocks

What nature and science tell us

Sharks, Monkeys and Rocks

Join us for a fascinating and educational lecture series featuring research from Cal Lutheran science faculty members.

William Bilodeau, Ph.D., will highlight the area's structural geology, the volcanic and sedimentary origins of the Western Santa Monica Mountains and the tectonics of Southern California. He will comment on the recent post-Thomas Fire mudslides and the slope stability in the hills above Ventura.

Bryan Swig, Ph.D., a marine biologist, will present his research that identifies sharks through DNA. Discovery Channel's Shark Week featured his research on the tooth fragment that Swig used to extract DNA from one of the fatal attacks that occurred at Surf Beach.

Anita Stone, Ph.D, a native of Brazil, is a behavioral ecologist with field research in Eastern Amazonia, where she has studied the same population of squirrel monkeys since 2000. She will present on their primate life histories, social behavior and mating habits.
