Everything Bach with Eric Kinsley

FABulous Speaker Series

Everything Bach with Eric Kinsley

We all know the beautiful musical legacy Johann Sebastian Bach enriched us with. His suites, concertos, cantatas, masses, keyboard works, and orchestral works are all part of the oeuvre of master works performed universally in halls, and in churches. This piano concert demonstration will feature and explore his compositional process and influences, examine his world and his place in it and the musical importance of his children and their contributions to the emerging classical style. At the end of the presentation a surprise guest will join Eric Kinsley.

Kinsley is a performing artist, recording artist, writer and educator. He is the director of music and organist at Saint Patrick's Episcopal Church in Thousand Oaks and a senior lecturer in the Music Department at Cal Lutheran.

He pursued his doctorate at the Manhattan School of Music under the mentorship of Kenneth Cooper. He has been a member of the New York Contemporary Music Band, Pacific Classical Winds and the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra. He has received grants in early and contemporary music from The National Endowment of the Arts, New York Harpsichord Society, and the Sylvia Marlow Foundation.

Kinsley has performed and recorded at the Discoteca Di Stato in Rome. In addition to broadcasts on Public Radio and television, he has worked with and performed premieres of the music of John Cage, Milton Babbitt, Morton Feldman, Steve Reich, Miguel del Aguilla, Andrea Tabacchi, Libby Larson and Steven Mosko and recorded works by Bach on Cantaur label.

The Fifty and Better program (FAB) was designed to offer university-level courses (no tests, no homework) taught by experts in the field, and to host social engagement activities for individuals 50 years of age and older in our community. When COVID-19 erupted and the first-ever offering of in-person courses had to be postponed indefinitely, we responded by moving the courses to a virtual (online) environment using Zoom.

Cost for the two-hour lecture is $8.
