Haitian Film Festival
The Reel Justice Film Series
A virtual screening of two films by Haitian directors will include a Q&A session.
Ayiti: The Awakening, directed by Sage Love, is a film about a young man’s journey to explore his ancestral roots and the troubled history of Ayiti after the impact of Haiti’s 2010 earthquake.
Nou Se Fos, directed by Chalky The King, is a spiritual fantasy film that follows the protagonist JEAN, a Haitian teenager who awakens his unique supernatural abilities after being racially profiled by the police.
After the screening there will be a Zoom Q&A with the films' directors.
Love, director of Ayiti: The Awakening is an award-winning, Ayitian-born, Brooklyn-raised filmmaker and entrepreneur who has written, directed and produced numerous films that have screened at film festivals in the U.S and overseas. Love creates films that challenge social norms and bring awareness to urban black communities — telling their stories with authentic representations.
Chalky The King is a Brooklyn-raised, Ayitian American screenwriter, film producer and actor. He has co-produced two films — the first being Ayiti: The Awakening. The four-time award winning documentary about Haiti was nominated for a BUFF Award for best Documentary at the British Urban Film Festival and screened at the New York African Film Festival, Silicon Valley African Film Festival, Kwaanza Film Festival, the Impact Documentary Awards, the African Film Festival and the Best Shorts Competition in 2019.
Registration is required. The free event will begin on Xerb, a film screening service, then move to Zoom for a Q&A session. Instructions and links will be sent to those who register.
