A Day with an Author

The workshop features the speaker JK Allen, the author of the Angelborn series, who has pursued an intellectual and professional journey from an English major to a published author and professional editor. Allen wrote her first story when she learned how to write and hasn’t looked back since. Common writing themes in her work address identity, everyday magic and the type of strength and courage that can be found in ordinary people. Her reading tastes are as varied as the genres she enjoys writing, from Jane Austen to Diana Wynne Jones.

Session 1:  10:30 a.m.

From an English Major to a Published Author and Professional Editor

This session covers the speaker’s personal and professional journey from an aspiring English major and undergraduate writing center consultant to becoming a published author and professional editor.

Session 2:  11:45 a.m.

Story Essentials: an Overview of Writing and the Publishing Process

This session features a complimentary lunch followed by author JK Allen who will lead an informative talk about the “bones” of skillful writing and discuss publishing and the writing process in general. Whether you are an aspiring author or a long-time writer or just a hobbyist, join us for lunch and bring your questions about writing at any stage and ability.

Session 3: 2 p.m. A Story Sparks Workshop

This session includes a round table discussion and a creative writing workshop with the author.
