Biutiful is the story of Uxbal, a man living in this world, but able to see his death, which guides his every move. Uxbal (Javier Bardem), a career criminal, plies his trade in Barcelona's underground sweatshops and back alleys. Unlike his associates, he has some respect for the poor workers under his thumb and is a devoted father. Told that he is ill and has just a few months to live, Uxbal tries to get his affairs in order before the spirits, with whom he communes, come to claim him.

In 1991, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the church with which Cal Lutheran is affiliated, adopted a “Declaration of Ecumenical Commitment: A Policy Statement of the ELCA” to express how it would strive toward unity among Christian churches for the blessing of humankind. Attendees will learn about what is at stake for the ELCA in adopting the statement, provide feedback and consider how to be good neighbors and friends.
