English Career Mentoring Featured in The CLU Echo

The English Department's "What Can You Do with an English Major" was featured in the March 31 edition of the CLU Echo

From The Echo, March 31, 2026:

"The California Lutheran University English Department hosted its first-ever “What Can You Do With an English Major?” forum, featuring alumnae now working in law, publishing and public service on Wednesday, March 25, in the Swenson Center for Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Assistant English professor Robert Mendoza organized the event with the help of the Project VITAL grant. He said the main goal of the event was to help students see the full horizon of careers that are possible with an English degree.

“These skills that are fostered and nurtured in art departments like English are actually becoming more valuable to the employers,” Mendoza said. “English majors, coding, close reading, communication and argumentative skills, at a daily rate, are increasingly becoming stronger candidates than the job market yearning for the soft skills that the humanities offer.”
