The purpose of the Graduate School of Education Student Success Stories for Alumni Achievements is to honor achievements by Graduate School of Education alumni. Achievements in this context are those that are recognized by the community to fulfill the values and mission of the university. Achievements are submitted by Cal Lutheran family members.
Our students work at places like Los Angeles Unified School District, Conejo Valley Unified School District, Simi Valley Unified School District, Ventura Unified School District, Oxnard School District, California State University, Northridge, Las Virgenes Unified School District and Moorpark College.

Each year, the Department of Learning and Teaching hands out Apple Awards at the Credential Ceremony to recognize excellence through our certification programs. Candidates are selected based on recommendations from the field and from university supervisors.

Mark Van Doren Poetry Prize - Samantha Meyer
The annual Mark Van Doren Poetry Prize ($1000) was first awarded in 1972. The prize became an endowed scholarship through the donations of poet Mark Van Doren’s sons, John and Charles Van Doren.
The Future Teachers Scholarship was inspired by Cal Lutheran faculty member Henry James Mahler who served on campus for 25 years. The scholarship is supported by generous donors of the GSOE, including local chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma, a women's teaching sorority. The scholarship is awarded to the teacher candidate nominated by faculty that demonstrates potential to be a successful teacher. Indicators may include academic performance, dispositional qualities, and/or previous classroom experiences.
