Haydn, Out in the Open
Eric Kinsley, D.M.A.
Franz Joseph Haydn wrote approximately 60 piano sonatas, variations and keyboard works. Though not as well known or as highly esteemed as his symphonies, masses and oratorios, these compositions show great creativity and emotional diversity that figure importantly in the development of the new classical genre that most of us are familiar with today.
CLU music lecturer Dr. Eric Kinsley treats these pieces as major works and brings the full weight of his extraordinary virtuosity to bear. Suddenly the finales are alive and dancing, opening movements majestic and profound, and the adagios are full of sentiment and longing. Kinsley’s performance will inspire other pianists and music enthusiasts to explore the depths of previously undiscovered works of Haydn.
