Founders Day Convocation
Mark Hanson, Presiding Bishop of the ELCA
CLU’s annual Founders Day Convocation is a day set aside for the University to give thanks for its heritage and to accent its primary mission of educating leaders for a global society. This year’s speaker the Rev. Mark Hanson, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will discuss this mission in his keynote address.
At the Churchwide Assembly in August, Hanson was re-elected to serve a second six-year term as presiding bishop of the ELCA. He also serves as president of the Lutheran World Federation. In this position, he has the opportunity to speak with Lutherans throughout the world about the social, economic and political injustices that we, the people of God, are called to confront. Bishop Hanson is author of Faithful Yet Changing, the Church in Challenging Times and Faithful and Courageous, Christians in Unsettling Times.
The service will include presentation of the Christus Award and commissioning of those who serve on the Board of Regents.
Admission is free.
