Arts, Lectures and Gatherings

Urban Exchange

Spend a memorable weekend in urban Los Angeles learning about and experiencing the issues surrounding life in the big city. We will work with local agencies on projects that might benefit the community. Poverty and immigration, as well as social justice, homelessness and other issues are central to the weekend.

We will depart campus Friday afternoon/evening, head to Angelica Lutheran Church in Los Angeles and settle in. The rest of the evening will involve a variety of activities surrounding the issues we may see.

The next morning is typically spent working with a local agency. Lunchtime comes, we prepare sack lunches and spend the afternoon exploring Skid Row in small, safe groups. Dinner is often at Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles (yum!) and we head back to "homebase" at the church to debrief what we have seen and thought and felt throughout the day.

Nighttime gives chances for games or homework or whatever people choose. Often, the group will get up Sunday morning, clean and pack up, and then attend the Spanish service at Angelica (optional).

Join us! The cost is only about $5 for the whole weekend! Sign up in the SUB or the chapel.
