Militant Islamic Terrorism: threats and responses

James Biesterfeld, a retired special agent with U.S. Army Intelligence, will speak on “Militant Islamic Terrorism: Threats and Responses” during this luncheon presentation.

Biesterfeld was originally recruited into military intelligence as a special agent for counterintelligence and investigated national security crimes, including counter-espionage and counter-terrorism. He worked in counterintelligence in Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, as a senior special agent in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and in a discreet surveillance detachment in Frankfurt, Germany.

Biesterfeld started an investigative company called Sovereign Executive Services in 1994. Following the events of Sept. 11, 2001, he designed several seminars to assist law enforcement with anti-terrorism efforts. He has trained hundreds of officers in California, Nevada, Florida, Nebraska and Ontario, Canada. He also works with private companies on anti-terrorism matters and threat assessments.

CLU is co-sponsoring the presentation in conjunction with the Corporate Security Division of Amgen in Newbury Park, Allied Barton Security Services in Newbury Park and Securitas in Thousand Oaks.

A second presentation primarily for students will be held at 2 p.m. in Richter Hall.
