Does Lutheran Higher Education Have a Future?
The lecture will be an exploration of the basic characteristics and distinctive nature of higher education in Lutheran contexts, and will suggest ways in which Lutheran ways of teaching and learning have relevance beyond the Lutheran community of faith to the broader higher education community.
Dr. Guy Erwin is well known to the CLU community, having taught in the Religion and History departments since the summer of 2000. He has also directed the Segerhammar Center for Faith and Culture and is currently Assistant to the President for University Ministries.
Dr. Erwin is the author of several journal articles and three books, among them two volumes of the works of the Swedish mystic Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772). His newest book, An Introduction to World Lutheranism, will be published by Cambridge University Press in 2009. He is well known in Lutheran higher education and in Reformation studies circles in America and abroad, and is much sought after as a public speaker.
