Reel Justice Documentary Series: Who Killed the Electric Car? (2006)

In 1996, electric cars began to appear on roads all over California. They were quiet and fast, produced no exhaust and ran without gasoline. Ten years later, these cars were destroyed. Why did General Motors crush its fleet of EV1 electric vehicles in the Arizona desert? Directed by Chris Paine, Who Killed the Electric Car? chronicles the life and mysterious death of the GM EV1, examining its cultural and economic ripple effects and how they reverberated through the halls of government and big business.

Kapp Johnson, senior lecturer in CLU’s School of Business, will introduce the film and director Chris Paine will lead a discussion after the screening.

Admission is free. The Reel Justice Documentary Series features films that touch on the themes of equality and social justice.
