The Tournees Festival: Bamako (2006)

In Bamako (Bamako), Melé, a bar singer, is married to Chaka, who is out of work, and the couple is on the verge of breaking up. In the courtyard of the house they share with other families, a trial court has been set up. African civil society spokesmen have taken proceedings against the World Bank and the IMF which they blame for Africa’s woes. Amidst the pleas and the testimonies, life goes on in the courtyard.

Admission is free. The film is shown with English subtitles.

The Tournées Festival: New French Films on the CLU Campus was made possible with the support of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Ministry of Culture (CNC). The Festival is sponsored by the Florence Gould Foundation, the Grand Marnier Foundation, highbrow entertainment, agnès b., and the Franco-American Cultural Fund.
