The Tournees Festival: La Mome (2007)
French Films on the CLU Campus
La Môme (La Vie en rose) is an un-chronological look at the life of the “Little Sparrow,” Edith Piaf. At 20, she’s a street singer discovered by a club owner who is soon murdered. Coached by a musician who brings her to concert halls, she quickly becomes famous. The tragedies of her love affair with Marcel Cerdan and the death of her only child belie the words of one of her signature songs, “Non, je ne regrette rien.” The back and forth nature of the narrative suggests the patterns of memory and association.
Admission is free. The film is shown with English subtitles.
The Tournées Festival: New French Films on the CLU Campus was made possible with the support of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Ministry of Culture (CNC). The Festival is sponsored by the Florence Gould Foundation, the Grand Marnier Foundation, highbrow entertainment, agnès b., and the Franco-American Cultural Fund.
