Neurological Sequelae of HIV and AIDS on Cognitive Functioning
A talk by John G. Prichard, M.D.
A number of studies demonstrate neuropsychological impairments caused by later stages of HIV and AIDS. These impairments include memory deficits, slowing and speed of information processing, motor deficits, attention and concentration problems, and impairment of language and language skills. These findings have important implications for clinicians conducting counseling and psychotherapy with patients who have AIDS or are HIV positive.
Dr. John G. Prichard was honored as 2008 Physician of the Year by the Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation. Currently he is Medical Director of the Immunology Clinic at the Ventura County Medical Center. Dr. Prichard is nationally recognized for his expertise in HIV matters. He also serves as clinical professor at the UCLA School of Medicine and adjunct professor at CSU Channel Islands and University of the Pacific.
