On Divorce Law and Mediation
A Presentation by Howard Levitt, Lic. MFT
Divorce mediation is the process by which a divorcing couple, through the help of a mediator, negotiates the terms of a divorce that is agreeable to both parties. Marriage and Family Therapists are increasingly becoming involved as mediators. In this presentation, Howard Levitt, LMFT, will describe the role of a divorce mediator and review some of the pertinent laws that impact this emerging field.
Levitt is a co-founder of both Divorces and Family Mediations Services and Counseling West, a mental health center with three offices and 30 therapists. He has worked for 25 years as a psychotherapist and more than 15 years as a private mediator. He is a Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution and has served two terms as an elected member of the State Board of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT).
