'Hungarian Goulash' Concert
Violinist Lorenz Gamma and CLU faculty cellist Joyce Geeting will perform two major works for violin and cello – the Duo by Kodaly and Handel-Halvorsen Passacaglia. In addition Dr. Geeting and her cello students will perform works by Halsey Stevens, David Popper and Béla Bartók.
Gamma has performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States. He has won two Grammy Awards and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for the ensemble work “Aura” by composer Chinary Ung. Born and educated in Switzerland, he later studied in the United States and currently holds faculty positions at UCLA and California Institute of the Arts.
Geeting has recently performed as soloist at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, at NA University in Mexico City, and at Young Artists in Chicago. Author of Janos Starker, King of Cellists, she is recipient of this year's Book Publicists' IRWIN Award for Most Innovative Campaign. Geeting is in demand for book talks where she performs Kodaly’s Solo Sonata, the piece that made Starker famous as a 15-year-old. A film about Starker's life is under consideration. Cambridge Who's Who named Geeting 2009 Professional Musician of the Year.
