Irene Levin Berman: Norway and the Holocaust

Because of their small Jewish populations, Scandinavian countries have been largely overlooked in histories of the Holocaust. However, stories such as Irene Levin Berman’s have surfaced in recent years. She and her family escaped to neutral Sweden where they lived for many years. Encouraged by Arnfinn Moland, director of Norway’s Resistance Museum, Berman researched and wrote her 2010 book, We are Going to Pick Potatoes: Norway and the Holocaust, the Untold Story, which sheds light on a hidden chapter in Norway’s history.
