Crisis in Ukraine

Special FABulous Lecture

Crisis in Ukraine

Herbert Gooch, PhD, will give a background briefing on the unfolding crisis in Ukraine. What are the historical roots of Russo-Ukrainian relations and why a crisis now? What does Putin want? Why are the United States and NATO backing Ukraine? What is the game being played; who are the players; what are the stakes? What moves might Putin and the West next play?

Gooch is professor emeritus of political science at California Lutheran University. He formerly served as director of the Masters in Public Policy and Administration program and assistant provost for Graduate Studies at Cal Lutheran. A graduate of UC Berkeley in history, he holds an MBA in management and both master's and doctoral degrees in political science from UCLA. He has written extensively and is a frequent commentator on political affairs locally and statewide. He has been at Cal Lutheran since 1987 and lives in Newbury Park with his wife. His interests include politics, film and travel.

Cost is $10. Registration is required by March 7. Registered participants will receive a Zoom link via email prior to the lecture.

This newly added lecture will be virtual and participants can use the Zoom chat function to submit questions. It is not part of the FABulous March Lecture Series 2022.
