Rethinking the Syllabus and Inclusive Classroom Practices to Promote DEIJ

Important event announcement: On February 13 (12-1pm), we will be offering our first (Virtual) School of Management DEIJ-focused professional development session - "Rethinking the Syllabus and Inclusive Classroom Practices to Promote DEIJ". Designed by our colleagues Mary Jo Shane and John Garcia and supported by colleagues Silvia Neves, (Title V Director Project CHESS) and Lorri Santamaría (Director of Faculty Development and Inclusive Excellence), this workshop will cover what it means to be a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), offer key statistics, and show how to rethink syllabi with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ). Participants will learn about inclusive classroom practices, the importance of considering diverse perspectives, and strategies for fostering an encouraging and supportive learning environment. Participants will also be shown how generative AI can be leveraged to help create diverse and inclusive content and improve syllabi and assignments to be more inclusive. The workshop will include a hands-on component, utilizing generative AI as a tool to create more inclusive and diverse syllabi, lesson plans, and course assignments. Participants are encouraged to bring a syllabus, along with a lesson plan or assignment they wish to enhance. RSVPs are required via this link
