2024 Pacific Coast Business Times Startup Village and Innovation Awards

The School of Management had a strong showing at the 2024 Pacific Coast Business Times Startup Village and Innovation Awards. On March 28, several SOM-affiliated startups presented their innovative startup businesses, including Dorfman Incubator Grant recipients Hortitech (Andrea Brimmer and Emma Sweeney), PlotSign (Zach Dunn), Wayside Energy (James Werbe and James Coleman), student-led startups Pikl Ball (Allison Pine) and SPF805 (Hope Gonzalez) and HomeBuddies (Mahsa Ghaderpour), as well as Hub101 residents Freindii and SuperNova Academy. We're particularly proud that Wayside Energy shared the People's Choice Award with a UCSB-affiliated startup. Most importantly, Dean's Executive Council member and major donor to the School of Management Steve Dorfman was honored for his impact on the entrepreneurial ecosystem at the SOM and beyond with the prestigious Alan J Heeger Spirit of Innovation Award! In addition to our entrepreneurs, the event was attended by President Varlotta, Provost Neilson, VP for Advancement Biddings-Muro, Gerhard Apfelthaler, Mike Panesis and Desserin Pereyra.
